Signs of the Times

Today marks one week since Hamas invaded Israel by air, land, and sea on October 7th 2023.  Terrorists trespassed into peaceful Jewish communities slaughtering men, women and children.  Innocent babies have been beheaded.  Women have been gang raped and taken captive into Gaza. The bodies of the dead and dying were additionally mutilated by the assassins.

We all knew that the annular eclipse today was coming.  We didn’t know how significant it would be in the context of world events that have been unfolding.

The day before the invasion, October 6th, was the last day of Sukkot, or the Feast of Tabernacles in 2023.  There is a fairly comprehensive list of significant dates put together by Anonymous Bishop in a blogpost titled, Nothing is Random.  His post could not have been more timely, considering the invasion by Hamas launched the very next day.

The attack on Israel came 1290 days after LDS temples worldwide were closed for the first time.

If that number count sounds familiar, it is because it is one of the specific time counts recorded in Daniel.

And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that makes desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred ninety days.
Daniel 10:20

March 26, 2020 also marked the 200th anniversary of Joseph Smith’s First Vision.  Eight days before the closure an earthquake in Salt Lake city induced the statue of the angel Moroni atop the temple to drop his trumpet.  In hindsight it seems the trump drop designated the final week of normal temple operations before the world-wide closure.  When temples re-opened ordinances had been profoundly, if not fundamentally, changed to the degree that receiving tokens are no longer part of the temple instruction.  It is likely that the daily sacrifice, as recognized by heaven, is gone forever from this particular branch of the Restoration.

Prior to Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) two independent yet complimentary books were published; one from a Jewish Rabbi (Johnathan Cahn) and the other from a gentile (Amberli Peterson).  Both testify against the sin of abortion.  Amberli made the connection that the phenomenal display of divine judgement and destruction displayed after the death of Christ was in response to, “secret murders,” the “slain of the fair sons and daughters of my people.”  Rock Waterman provides a much better summary of the book than I could attempt and has a video from Peterson’s book launch that is excellent.

This fall season in particular is significant.  The spring feasts and festivals were fulfilled with the birth, atonement and resurrection of our Lord. The fall feasts and festivals point forward toward  the rapidly approaching Second Coming and Judgement.

The timing of these events; the unfolding of ancient scripture right before our eyes; this complex yet sublime apocalypse (meaning: great revealing, disclosure) testify of a master weaver who knew the end from the beginning.  How else could so many of the last days events align and intertwine so perfectly?

And despite the fact that we have the prophecies before us even now, I expect that it will not be until they are fulfilled that our understanding will be opened to see at last what God had in mind all along.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it, that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water, by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish.
