New Elegies

This song really speaks to me.

I’ll start my elegant rambling.
Cause heaven knows something I don’t.
Turn around, turn around…
Lord, can You hear me?
I’m on my knees fighting alone.

Maybe I need new elegies
To grieve what I can’t escape.
Awash and adrift in the human condition…
Oh God, for a little more faith.

It’s colder out here than it was before.
And calluses cover my hands.
Crying out, “Lord, can you hear me?”
I hate that I don’t understand.
Oh, I hate that I don’t understand.

So maybe I need new elegies
and passionate old laments.
I started allowing
the pain of the doubting
to stand near the songs of ascent.

And maybe I lost sincerity,
for gilded and empty praise.
But if I start listing
my self-stained petitions
Can I bear the risk in
unanswered specifics…

Oh God, for a little more faith…
Oh God, for a little more faith.
